THE SUSPECT IN THE GRANITE CITY POLICE OFFICER SHOOTING – IN CUSTODY

GRANITE CITY – The suspect, 26-year-old DJ Marshall of Granite City, IL, who is believed to have shot a Granite City Police Department officer has been taken into custody. On December 5, 2025, at approximately 2:19 p.m., Granite City Police Department officers responded to a call in the 2000 block of Johnson Road in Granite City. When officers arrived and encountered Marshall, he pulled out a firearm, fired several shots, striking one officer, and fled on foot. The officer was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition. ISP, utilized K9 and an aircraft, and worked with the Granite City Police Department, Alton Police Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement, US Marshall Services and the FBI to search for Marshall. This cooperative effort led to the apprehension of Marshall at approximately 3:00 a.m. in Granite City. He is currently housed at the Madison County jail pending charges.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
