SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Police (ISP) continues to target vehicle theft, hijacking, and related violent crimes using grant funding from the Illinois Secretary of State Illinois Vehicle Hijacking and Motor Vehicle Theft Prevention and Insurance Verification Council. ISP was awarded a $10 million grant for the first fiscal year, and another $677,000 grant announced in June 2024.

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE IMPROVES CRASH INVESTIGATION AND SAFETY TECHNIQUES DURING TESTING AND RESEARCH EVENT IN JOLIET

JOLIET – To help with traffic crash investigations, as well as identify best practices to keep officers safe, the Illinois State Police (ISP) participated in the Illinois Association of Technical Accident Investigators crash testing event on June 26-28, 2024. The event took place at the Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL. ISP officers from the Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, Crime Scene Services, Division of Patrol, and representatives from the ISP Forensic Laboratory joined law enforcement officers and crash scene investigators from other agencies for the three-day event. Attendees witnessed live crash testing and participated in forensic mapping and digital evidence recovery.

ILLINOIS STATE POLICE CELEBRATES YOUTH CAMP SUCCESS STORIES

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Police (ISP) is preparing for the 2024 Team Illinois Youth Police Camp (TIYPC) summer camp series across the state. The TIYPCs are highly structured week-long residency camps held in Elsah, Romeoville, and Carbondale each year. The camps are based upon a military model and are geared for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17. Attendees, or Cadets, learn military drills and participate in physical fitness exercises. Cadets also attend classroom instruction on leadership development, substance abuse resistance, team building principles, and other life enhancing skills. TIYPCs promote positive rapport and interactions between law enforcement and the attendees. Graduates of the youth camps have experienced great success, and many have credited their camp experiences as pivotal points in reaching their future goals.
