ILLINOIS STATE POLICE TROOPERS LOCATE 15 KILOS OF COCAINE DURING TRAFFIC STOP IN KANKAKEE COUNTY

KANKAKEE – The Illinois State Police (ISP), with the assistance of the Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group, arrested 63-year-old Dwayne B. Cook of Spring, TX after an ISP traffic stop on I-57.

On August 16, 2025, at approximately 3:24 a.m., an ISP trooper conducted a motor carrier safety inspection on a truck tractor on I-57 northbound near milepost 302 in Chebanse, Kankakee County. A search of the truck tractor revealed 15 kilo bundles (approximately 40 pounds) of suspected cocaine. ​ The driver, identified as Cook, was arrested, and charged with Controlled Substance Trafficking (Class X Felony) and Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Class X Felony). He is being held at the Jerome Cobs Detention Center pending his first court appearance. There is no further information.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
