Illinois State Police Seeks the Public’s Assistance Identifying the Remains of a Man Discovered in Lake Mattoon

LAKE MATTOON – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigations Zone 8 is seeking the public’s assistance identifying the remains of a man discovered in Lake Mattoon.
On the evening of June 28, 2026, boaters observed part of a human arm in Lake Mattoon. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department requested ISP adopt the investigation. The arm has distinct tattoos and ISP is hoping this will help in identifying the man.
