Illinois State Police Secure First-Degree Murder Charges for Suspects in Lake Mattoon Death Investigation

PLAINFIELD – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation announce that additional charges of First-Degree Murder (Class M Felony) have been filed against the two suspects previously charged in connection to the dismembered body of 38-year-old Dalewayne Turner of Plainfield, IL after his arm was found by a boater in Lake Mattoon on June 28, 2026.
After the initial discovery in Lake Mattoon, further searches of the lake and a residence in Plainfield revealed additional evidence. On July 2, 2026, the suspects, 26-year-old James Adams and 62-year-old Robin Turner, were both initially charged with Concealment of a Homicide (Class 3 Felony) and Dismembering a Human Body (Class X Felony).
ISP conducted an extensive and thorough investigation and on July 29, 2026, the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office approved an additional three counts of First-Degree Murder for both Adams and Turner. Adams and Turner remain in custody. There is no additional information.
The charges are not evidence against the defendants, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
