LA SALLE – On March 30, 2025, the La Salle Police Department requested Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 investigate an officer involved shooting.
Around 1:30 p.m. on March 30, 2025, La Salle Police Department and Peru Police Department Officers responded to the 600 block of Chartres Street in La Salle and encountered a suicidal subject with a gun. Officers observed the subject, 72-year-old Daniel W. Curtin Sr. of La Salle, exit the building and fire a gun in the air, at which time they requested the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Response Team. For more than an hour and a half the response team worked to de-escalate the situation, during which time Curtin repeatedly exited the building with a handgun. At one point, Curtin fired the gun out the window towards Officers. Around 4 p.m., Curtin came out of the building and pointed a handgun at Officers, at which time an Officer discharged their firearm. First aid was rendered on scene, but Curtin was pronounced deceased. No Officers or residents were injured.
In accordance with ISP’s commitment to integrity and public transparency, the video of the event is being made available to the public and can be found by clicking HERE.
This video is being released after consultation with and authorization by the LaSalle County State’s Attorney. ISP provided Curtin’s family the opportunity to review the video before its release to the public. The LaSalle County States Attorney declined to file charges in this case.
