Illinois State Police Make 2 Arrests Following I-290 Road Rage Shootings

CHICAGO- Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 33-year-old David N. Andujar of Chicago, IL. and 45-year-old Mario Lyons of Burnham, IL., after both suspects were quickly captured with the cooperation and interagency communication from Chicago Police Department (CPD) District 15 following two separate road rage incidents that escalated into a shooting on I-290.
On October 8, 2026, at approximately 10:37 a.m., ISP Troopers responded to the report of an expressway shooting that occurred on I-290 eastbound near Central Avenue. It was reported that a shot was fired from one vehicle to another after an apparent road rage incident. There were no injuries reported. CPD officers quickly located the vehicle in Chicago. CPD took one suspect into custody, and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle. After a thorough investigation, Lyons was identified as the suspect.
Later that evening, on October 8, 2026, at approximately 10:48 p.m., ISP Troopers responded to the report of another expressway shooting that occurred on I-290 westbound near Austin Avenue. After an alleged road rage incident, the suspect fired a weapon at the victim’s vehicle multiple times. The victim’s vehicle was not struck and they were uninjured. Troopers quickly identified and located the suspect vehicle and took two subjects into custody, one being Andujar. After a thorough investigation, Andujar was identified as the suspect.
On October 9, 2026, ISP presented both cases to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Lyons was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 2 Felony) and Aggravated Unlawful Possession of a Weapon with No FOID (Class 4 Felony). Andujar was charged with two counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony) and one count of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 2 Felony). Lyons and Andujar both remain in custody pending their first court appearances. No further information is available.

The charges are not evidence against the defendants, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
