ILLINOIS STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING PURSUIT THAT ENDS WITH APPARENT SELF-INCLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND

EAST ST. LOUIS – The East St. Louis Police Department requested the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6 to investigate a police pursuit that ended with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On February 14, 2026, at approximately 2:28 a.m., East St. Louis Police Department (ESLPD) officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of 47th Street and State Street in East St. Louis, IL. During the stop, the vehicle fled from ESLPD officers, struck a raised concrete median and became disabled at the intersection of 25th Street and St. Clair Avenue. Officers approached the vehicle and found the driver deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

This investigation is open and ongoing. ​ ISP is currently processing evidence and conducting interviews. ​ Upon completion of the investigation, all evidence and facts will be submitted for review to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney's Office. ​ No additional information is available at this time.
