ILLINOIS STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN PEORIA

PEORIA – The Peoria Police Department requested the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 4 to investigate an officer involved shooting.

On May 8, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m., Peoria Police Department (PPD) officers responded to a report of a domestic dispute near the intersection of Hamilton and Madison streets in Peoria, IL. ​ A woman involved in the domestic was found shot. ​ A PPD officer encountered the suspect and shots were fired. The suspect was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital. ​ No officers were injured.

This is an active investigation and no additional information is available at this time. ​ Once the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Peoria County State’s Attorney for review. ​
