ILLINOIS STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING CRASH INVOLVING TROOPER

APRIL 25, 2026

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Internal Investigation is investigating a traffic crash involving an ISP Trooper in Sangamon County.

On April 25, 2026, at approximately 2:30 a.m., a Trooper was traveling south in the middle lane on South 6th Street approaching the green light at the intersection of Linton Street in Springfield. ​ A pedestrian was reportedly bent down in the roadway when the Trooper's squad car struck the pedestrian. ​ The Trooper rendered aid until EMS arrived on scene. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced deceased.

In accordance with the Police and Community Relations Improvement Act (50 ILCS 727) and the Illinois State Police Law (20 ILCS 2605), Special Agents of the Illinois State Police Division of Internal Investigation are investigating this incident. ​ ​

This investigation is open and ongoing. ​ ISP is currently processing evidence and conducting interviews. ​ Upon completion of the investigation, all evidence and facts will be submitted for review to the Sangamon County State’s Attorney's Office. ​ No additional information is available at this time.
