ILLINOIS STATE POLICE INVESTIGATES SHOOTING IN ST. CLAIR COUNTY

BELLEVILLE – An Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6 investigation resulted in six charges against 28-year-old Chase A. Powers of Belleville, IL, including attempted murder. ​

On February 20, 2025, ISP agents were requested by the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department (SCCSD) to investigate a shooting. SCCSD responded with an investigator from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services to a residence in the 700 block of South 15th Street in Belleville to check the wellbeing of a child living at the residence. While at the residence, an altercation occurred between investigators and Powers. Powers disarmed one of the officers and the firearm was discharged. ​ No one was injured as a result of the firearm being discharged. ​ Powers was taken into custody and transported to the St. Clair County Jail.

After a thorough investigation, the case was presented to St. Clair County State’s Attorney James Gomric, who filed six charges against Rogers on February 21, 2025 for Attempted Murder (Class X Felony), Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class X Felony), Aggravated Battery/Great Bodily Harm of Police Officer (Class 1 Felony), Disarming a Police Officer (Class 1 Felony), Felon in Possession of a Weapon (Class 2 Felony), Aggravated Battery of Police Officer (Class 2 Felony).

Powers is being held at the St. Clair County Jail. No further information is available.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
