ILLINOIS STATE POLICE INVESTIGATES OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN SWANSEA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 11, 2026

SWANSEA – The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department requested the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6 to investigate an officer involved shooting.

On January 11, 2026, at approximately 7:15 a.m., St. Clair County Deputies were responding to a report of a domestic incident in Swansea where it was reported one subject had possibly been stabbed. While responding to the incident, Deputies received a report of a subject walking in the roadway with a firearm near the residence. Deputies encountered the subject in the 2800 block of Old Collinsville Road in Swansea. The subject displayed a firearm and one of the Deputies discharged their duty weapon, striking the subject. Deputies attempted to take the subject into custody and a struggle ensued. The subject was ultimately taken into custody and transported to an area hospital with injuries. No Officers were injured.

ISP Special Agents will complete a thorough, timely, and independent investigation, and once complete, the case will be turned over to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney for review. ​

The investigation is active and ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time. ​
