Illinois State Police Investigates Fatal Crash in Peoria

Peoria – The Peoria Police Department (PPD) requested the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 4 to investigate a fatal crash in Peoria.

On August 22, 2026, at approximately 2:45 a.m., PPD officers responded to a shooting in the 1400 block of SW Jefferson Avenue in Peoria. Officers observed the suspect vehicle fleeing the scene and a pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle was traveling westbound and made contact with another vehicle at the intersection of Howett Street and Western Avenue. The suspect vehicle continued westbound striking a pedestrian and then a utility pole. ​ The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on scene. Two occupants from the suspect vehicle were transported to an area hospital with injuries. ​ A firearm was recovered from the vehicle. ​

This investigation is open and ongoing. ​ Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be submitted for review to the Peoria County State’s Attorney's Office. ​ No additional information is available at this time.
