ILLINOIS STATE POLICE INVESTIGATES FATAL CRASH

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

February 16, 2026

EDWARDSVILLE – The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Police Department (SIUE PD) requested the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6 to investigate a pursuit, which ended in a fatal crash.

On February 15, 2026, at approximately 11:10 p.m., the SIUE PD attempted to stop a Chevrolet truck after an officer observed the truck driving unsafely on New Poag Road and then driving the wrong way on SIU Northern Access Road. The truck did not stop and SIUE PD initiated a pursuit. The truck drove at a high rate of speed though the city of Edwardsville and the driver lost control and crashed into the Redmon Insurance building on Illinois Route 159 south of Illinois Route 157 in Edwardsville. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene by the Madison County Corner. Illinois Route 159 was closed for an extended period of time for the crash investigation. No officers were injured.

After a thorough investigation, ISP will turn the case over to the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office for review. The investigation is active and ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.
