ILLINOIS STATE POLICE CONDUCTING DEATH INVESTIGATION IN RICHLAND COUNTY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

OLNEY – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 8 is assisting the Richland County Sheriff’s Office with a death investigation in Olney.

On June 8, 2026, at approximately 3:35 a.m., the Richland County Sheriff's Office responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 4500 block of E. Golf Lane in Olney, IL. Upon arrival, a deputy located the suspect, 49-year-old Kenneth Lee Grove. Grove failed to comply with the deputy’s commands, at which time the deputy deployed their taser, striking Grove. Grove became unresponsive, and emergency medical services were requested. The deputy began life‑saving measures; however, Grove was pronounced deceased on scene. The Richland County Sheriff’s Office requested ISP investigate the incident.

This is an active investigation, and no additional information is available at this time. ​ Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be turned over to the Richland County State’s Attorney for review. ​
