ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS TWO MEN FOR BURGLARY TO PRAIRIE VIEW REST AREA

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MONEE – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 arrested 41-year-old Flavio Retana from Burbank, IL and 34-year-old Bernardo Hernandez-Molina from Melrose Park, IL for Burglary (Class 2 Felony), Theft Greater Than $500 (Class 3 Felony), and Criminal Trespass to State Supported Land (Class A Misdemeanor).

On August 18, 2025, ISP responded to a report of a burglary that occurred at the I-57 northbound Prairie View Rest Area in Monee, which is currently closed due to construction. ​ The theft occurred during the evening of Sunday, August 17, 2025, and maintenance equipment was reportedly taken.

After a thorough investigation, ISP Special Agents identified the vehicle used during the burglary. ​ On August 22, 2025, the vehicle was located, Retana and Hernandez-Molina were taken into custody. ​ Both are currently detained at the Will County Adult Detention Facility. ​

The charges are not evidence against the defendants, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
