Illinois State Police Arrests Two Chicago Men for Attempted Murder After Expressway Shooting

CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 34-year-old Thomas T. Beauchamp and 38-year-old Charles Mojica both of Chicago, IL after an expressway shooting on I-290.
On June 19, 2026, around 2:37 a.m., ISP responded to a report of an expressway shooting on I-290 westbound at Morgan Avenue in Chicago. The victim had reportedly been involved in an altercation with one of the suspects at a local restaurant and both suspects allegedly followed the victim as they drove onto the expressway. A suspect fired a weapon at the victim’s vehicle. No injuries were reported. After an extensive investigation, ISP Special Agents identified Beauchamp and Mojica as the suspects.
On August 5, 2026, arrest warrants were issued for both Beauchamp and Mojica. On August 11, 2026, Mojica was located and arrested. On August 17, 2026, Beauchamp was located and arrested. ISP presented the case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and Beauchamp and Mojica were charged with Attempted Murder (Class X Felony). They remain in custody pending their first court appearance. No further information is available.


The charges are not evidence against the defendants, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
