CHICAGO – The Illinois State Police (ISP) arrested 36-year-old Saeed E. Mustafa of Chicago Ridge, IL for multiple felony charges related to possessing and selling stolen motor vehicles for scrap metal.
On February 12, 2026, a victim notified ISP their vehicle had been stolen off the Bishop Ford Freeway, on I-94 near Beaubien Woods, after being involved in a crash. The victim called a private towing company and left the vehicle. When the private towing company arrived, the vehicle was missing.
The responding Trooper initiated an extensive investigation, which revealed a suspect tow truck, driven by Mustafa, was travelling in the area and took the victim’s vehicle without authority. Mustafa allegedly transported the vehicle to a local junk car company and provided them with false paperwork indicating he had authority to sell the vehicle. Further investigation revealed Mustafa recently brought multiple vehicles to the same junk car company in exchange for money. Troopers expanded their investigation into the other vehicles Mustafa sold, discovering several had been reported stolen out of Chicago and Indiana.
On February 27, 2026, Troopers located the suspect tow truck driving on I-94, initiated a traffic stop, and took Mustafa into custody. ISP presented its case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and Mustafa was charged with six counts of Conspiracy to Receive/Possess/Sell Stolen Motor Vehicle (Class 2 Felony). He was held pending his first court appearance. There is no further information.
The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
