ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS SUSPECT ON SCENE OF EXPRESSWAY SHOOTING

CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 33-year-old Valencia Carwell of Chicago, IL for one count of Attempted Murder (Class X Felony), one count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (Class X Felony), and one count of Aggravated Domestic Battery (Class 2 Felony) related to an expressway shooting on I-94.

On October 12, 2025, ISP troopers responded to an expressway shooting on I-94 northbound near 159th Street. The victim’s vehicle broke down and was parked on the right shoulder. The suspect, Carwell, who was also known to the victim, arrived in a second vehicle and a fight ensued. Carwell reportedly shot the victim multiple times. The victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. Troopers arrived on scene located Carwell with a firearm and took her into custody.

On October 13, 2025, ISP Special Agents presented their case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the above-mentioned charges were filed. Carwell is being held pending her first court appearance. There is no further information.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
