Illinois State Police Arrests Sugar Grove Man for Felony DUI After Three People Killed in Crash

MILLBROOK – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 22-year-old Carson M. Rehkopf of Sugar Grove, IL, following a crash in Kendall County that killed three people.
On July 31, 2026, at approximately 9:15 p.m., ISP Troopers responded to a crash on IL-71 just past Walker Road, south of Millbrook. Rehkopf was driving a pickup truck southbound on IL-71 and entered the northbound lanes to pass multiple vehicles. Rehkopf’s truck struck a SUV head-on causing a four-vehicle crash. A passenger from the SUV, 38-year-old Amy L. Witter, was pronounced deceased on scene. The other three SUV occupants were transported to area hospitals and two of them, 61-year-old James D. Witter and a 4-year-old girl, were later pronounced deceased. All the SUV occupants were from Des Moines, Iowa. Rehkopf was also injured in the crash.
On August 2, 2026, ISP presented the case to the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office, which approved six counts of Aggravated DUI involving Death (Class 2 Felony), two counts of Aggravated DUI Involving Great Bodily Harm (Class 4 Felony), and multiple traffic offenses. Rehkopf remains in custody at the Kendall County Jail pending his first court appearance.
The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
