Illinois State Police Arrests Pontoon Beach Man for First-Degree Murder

BROOKLYN – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6 Major Crimes Unit Special Agents arrested 26-year-old Malik D. Day of Pontoon Beach, IL for First Degree Murder (Class M Felony).
On September 20, 2026, the Brooklyn Police Department requested ISP’s assistance to investigate a homicide that occurred at the Club O Gentlemen’s Club at 213 Madison Street in Brooklyn at approximately 3:26 a.m. The victim, 21-year-old Jon’nae Abbott of St. Louis, MO, was struck by gunfire coming from a passing vehicle while she was standing in line waiting entrance to the establishment.
During the investigation, ISP Special Agents identified Day as a suspect. On September 25, 2026, ISP presented the case to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office, who approved the abovementioned charge. Day was in custody in Missouri during the issuance of charges. Day remains in custody at the St. Louis City Justice Center pending extradition to Illinois. No further information is available.
The charge is not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
