ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS NEW JERSEY MAN FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER ROAD RAGE CRASH ON I-57

CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 25-year-old Hassan A. Moutassim of Jersey City, NJ after an alleged road rage driving incident turned violent on I-57.
On April 28, 2026, ISP Troopers received reports of multiple crashes on I-57 northbound starting at 127th Street. Moutassim allegedly drove his semi-truck recklessly on I-57 northbound resulting in eight separate crashes. After the last crash near Halsted Street, Moutassim stopped his semi-truck and exited. He reportedly physically removed a driver out of one of the other crashed vehicles and began battering the driver, including an attempt to strangle the victim. Officers arrived on scene and took Moutassim into custody. The victim was transported to an area hospital with injuries.
On April 29, 2026, ISP Troop 3 Troopers, assisted by Zone 1 Special Agents, presented the case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and Moutassim was charged with Attempted Murder (Class X Felony), Aggravated Battery on a Public Way (Class 3 Felony), and Aggravated Battery-Strangulation (Class 3 Felony). He is being held pending her first court appearance. There is no further information.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
