ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS MAN FOR LEAVING THE SCENE OF SERIOUS INJURY CRASH ON I-94

SKOKIE – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 30-year-old Damian Lopez of Beach Park, IL for one count of Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash (Class 4 Felony) and Failure to Report a Personal Injury Crash (Class 2 Felony) related to a hit and run pedestrian crash on the Edens Expressway earlier this week.

On February 1, 2026, at approximately 4:47 a.m., ISP Troopers received the report of multiple crashes on I-94 near Church Street in Skokie. In one of the crashes, an occupant exited a vehicle after the crash and was struck by the suspect’s vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled the scene. The victim was transported to an area hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

ISP Special Agents conducted a swift and thorough investigation, identifying Lopez as the driver of the suspect vehicle. On February 2, 2026, ISP Special Agents arrested Lopez.

ISP presented its case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the above-mentioned charges were filed. Lopez was held at the Cook County Jail pending his first court appearance. There is no further information available at this time.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
