ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS MAN FOR LEAVING THE SCENE OF 2025 FATAL CRASH ON I-57

MATTESON – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 40-year-old Gregory D. Miles of Park Forest, IL, for Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Crash (Class 4 Felony) and Failure to Report a Fatal Crash (Class 1 Felony), following the investigation of a 2025 fatal crash on I-57.
On July 27, 2025, at approximately 4:06 a.m., ISP Troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash on I-57 southbound, just north of Vollmer Road in Matteson. Several occupants had exited a stalled vehicle and were attempting a restart, when one person was side-swiped in the lane by a passing vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle then became disabled at the scene, after which the suspect fled from the scene on foot. The injured victim and an additional person were then struck by a second vehicle. Both victims were transported to an area hospital where one was declared deceased.
After an extensive investigation, Miles was identified as the driver of the suspect vehicle and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. On May 11, 2026, ISP Special Agents arrested Miles and presented the case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office for the above-mentioned charges. Miles is being held at the Cook County Jail pending his first court appearance. There is no further information available at this time.
