Illinois State Police Arrests Lake Zurich Woman After Firearm Illegally Sold to Convicted Felon

LAKE ZURICH – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 25-year-old Tanqueray McBride of Lake Zurich, IL, following an investigation into illegal straw purchasing multiple firearms and selling at least one to a convicted felon.
In August of 2025, ISP Troopers conducted a traffic stop on I-290 and recovered a firearm; the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody for felony Aggravated Possession of a Firearm. The firearm was sent for testing and the investigation continued.
In March of 2026, it was discovered that the firearm from the I-290 traffic stop had been originally purchased by McBride. ISP Special Agents further discovered that another firearm purchased by McBride had been recovered during a separate arrest in Lake County in November of 2025. After an exhaustive investigation, it was revealed that McBride legally purchased the firearms claiming them as personal purchases but then sold them to people who weren’t legally allowed to possess firearms, also known as a straw purchase.
On September 16, 2026, ISP presented the case to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, which approved the charges of Unlawful Purchase of a Firearm - Intent to Deliver (Class 2 Felony), Unlawful Delivery of a Firearm to a Felon (Class 3 Felony), and Perjury (Class 3 Felony). An arrest warrant was issued for McBride and on September 24, 2026, McBride turned herself in to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. McBride appeared at a pre-trial detention hearing and was released. There is no further information.
The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
