Illinois State Police Arrests Juvenile Suspect for Murder After Stabbing Death in East St. Louis

EAST ST. LOUIS – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6 Public Safety Enforcement Group Special Agents arrested a 15-year-old juvenile male from East St. Louis, IL, for First Degree Murder (Class M Felony) after a stabbing attack left a victim dead.
On August 3, 2026, shortly after 10 p.m., East St. Louis Police Department (ESLPD) responded to the area of 76th Street and State Street for the report of a body in the roadway. The victim, 78-year-old John W. Allen of Jennings, MO, was waiting at a bus stop when he was stabbed in a random attack by a suspect wearing a clown outfit. ISP PSEG Special Agents arrived on scene, and a juvenile suspect was quickly identified. Special Agents later located the juvenile at a residence and took him into custody.
On August 6, 2026, the juvenile was formally charged with First Degree Murder. The suspect remained in custody during the issuance of charges.
ESLPD, East St. Louis Housing Authority, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office, Caseyville Police Department, Belleville Police Department, Cahokia Heights Police Department, and Fairview Heights Police Department assisted ISP with the investigation. There is no additional information at this time.

The charge is not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
