Illinois State Police Arrests Indiana Man for Attempted Murder After Road Rage Expressway Shooting

CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 37-year-old Anthony T. Pointer of Gary, IN after a road rage incident escalated into an expressway shooting on the Stony Island feeder ramp.
On December 12, 2025, ISP received a report of an expressway shooting that occurred on the Stony Island feeder ramp south to I-94 in Chicago. During a suspected road rage incident, the suspect fired a weapon at a victim. The victim suffered a graze wound and was transported to an area hospital. After an extensive investigation, ISP Special Agents identified Pointer as the suspect.
On August 21, 2026, Special Agents took Pointer into custody. ISP presented the case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and Pointer was charged with Attempted Murder (Class X Felony) and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (Class X Felony). He remains in custody pending his first court appearance. No further information is available.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
