ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS DRIVERS FROM TWO DUI CRASHES, INCLUDING ONE THAT INJURED TROOPER

CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested two suspects for felony Driving Under the Influence incidents after two, unrelated crashes in Chicago left multiple victims seriously injured.

On March 30, 2026, a Trooper was patrolling in the area of Homan Avenue and Jackson Boulevard looking for a Volkswagen that was wanted by Chicago Police related to a criminal investigation. The Trooper’s squad had its emergency lights activated when it entered the intersection and was struck by the Volkswagen. The Trooper was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The Volkswagen driver, 38-year-old Nadalie Ortner of Burbank, IL, was also transported to an area hospital with injuries. On March 30, 2026, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges for Aggravated DUI - Great Bodily Harm (Class 4 Felony), Aggravated DUI (3+ Offenses), and Aggravated DUI - Driving While License is Suspended. Ortner remained at the hospital due to sustained injuries before being transported to Cook County Jail.

On April 4, 2026, ISP troopers responded to a crash on I-94 northbound near 76th Street, involving a Dodge truck that struck a Nissan sedan, causing the Nissan to roll over. An occupant from the Nissan was ejected and sustained life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Dodge, 21-year-old Adrian Granados-Garcia of Chicago, was taken into custody at the scene. On April 5, 2026, ISP presented its case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, who approved one count of Aggravated DUI - Great Bodily Harm (Class 4 Felony). Granados-Garcia remained in custody pending his first court appearance.

The charges are not evidence against the defendants, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
