ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS DECATUR MAN FOR AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AFTER CROSSBOW INCIDENT

DECATUR – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5 arrested 54-year-old Michael Boliard of Decatur, IL for Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer (Class 4 Felony), Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Class A Misdemeanor), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 1 Felony), and Armed Violence (Class 2 Felony).

On April 22, 2026, at approximately 9:22 a.m., Decatur Police Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of E. William Street regarding an armed subject, now identified as Boliard. Officers located Boliard, and at one point he reportedly pointed a crossbow at the Officers. In response, Decatur Police Officers discharged their firearms and struck Boliard. Officers provided immediate medical aid on scene and Boliard was transported to a local hospital with injuries.

ISP is conducting an independent and thorough investigation of the incident and has presented the case to the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office. On May 5, 2026, Boliard was released from the hospital and taken into custody. He is being held at the Macon County Jail pending his first court appearance. While an arrest has been made, this investigation is ongoing, and additional could be forthcoming.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
