ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS CHICAGO WOMAN FOR ROAD-RAGE EXPRESSWAY SHOOTING

CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 arrested 24-year-old Octavia Howleit from Chicago, IL for one count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (Class X Felony) and one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony) related to a road-rage incident and expressway shooting on I-57 in April.
On April 30, 2025, at approximately 2:36 p.m., ISP officers responded to the Mobil Gas Station in the 2700 Block of 147th Street in Posen, IL for the report of a victim who had been shot on I-57 near 127th Street. The victim was struck by gunfire while driving on I-57 and pulled over at the gas station before being transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. After an exhaustive investigation, ISP special agents identified Howleit as a suspect.
On July 21, 2025, ISP special agents took Howleit into custody. ISP special agents presented their case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the above-mentioned charges were filed against Howleit. Howleit is being held pending her first court appearance. There is no further information.
The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
