ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS CHICAGO MAN FOR ROAD RAGE EXPRESSWAY SHOOTING LESS THAN 24-HOURS AFTER RECEIVING THE REPORT

CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 29-year-old Bowen Zhang of Chicago, IL for one count of Attempted Murder (Class X) and one count of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony) related to a road rage expressway shooting on the Stevenson Expressway.

On November 5, 2025, ISP Troopers received a delayed report of an expressway shooting that occurred on I-55 northbound north of California Avenue. A road rage incident occurred, and the driver of the suspect vehicle fired a weapon at the victim’s vehicle, striking it multiple times. The victim was uninjured and reported the incident later in the day.

ISP Special Agents conducted a thorough investigation and identified the suspect vehicle and suspected shooter, Zhang, within 24-hours. On November 6, 2025, Special Agents located Zhang and took him into custody without incident.

ISP Special Agents presented their case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the above-mentioned charges were filed. Zhang was held pending his first court hearing. There is no further information available at this time.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
