ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS CHICAGO MAN FOR DUI AND WEAPONS OFFENSE AFTER CRASH WITH IDOT TRUCK

CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 29-year-old Edward V. Gilbert of Chicago for Felon in Possession of a Weapon (Class 3 Felony) and Aggravated Driving Under the Influence – Accident-Causing Great Bodily Harm (Class 4 Felony) after a serious-injury crash this weekend on the Dan Ryan Expressway.
On June 15, 2025, at approximately 2:24 a.m., ISP Troop 3 officers responded to I-94 southbound at 83rd Street in Chicago for the report of a crash. An Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) truck had its emergency lights and sirens activated and was preparing to stop for a disabled vehicle on the left shoulder. As the IDOT truck slowed in the left lane, a Hyundai Sonata rear-ended the IDOT truck. The driver of the Hyundai, identified as Gilbert, and his passenger, a 24-year-old female from Sauk Village, were both transported to an area hospital with serious injuries. The IDOT driver did not report any injuries. A loaded firearm was located inside the Hyundai.
ISP Special Agents presented their investigation to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and on June 18, 2025, the abovementioned charges were filed. Custody of Gilbert has been transferred to the Cook County Sheriff’s Department until an initial hearing date will be conducted. There is no additional information.
