ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS CHICAGO MAN AFTER FATAL CRASH ON I-290

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 21-year-old Jose F. Perez Marin of Chicago, IL for one count of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Involving Death (Class 2 Felony), one count of Aggravated DUI - No Driver’s License (Class 4 Felony), and one count of Aggravated DUI - Great Bodily Harm (Class 4 Felony) following a deadly crash on I-290.

On May 17, 2026, at approximately 2:59 a.m., ISP Troopers responded to a crash on I-290 westbound west of Ashland Avenue. Perez Marin was driving a GMC SUV on I-290 when he rear-ended a Toyota SUV, which caused a chain reaction crash with an additional two vehicles. A passenger in the Toyota SUV, identified as 25-year-old Benjamin M. Farraday of Wheaton, IL, was transported to an area hospital and died from his injuries. Perez Marin and five other people were also injured in the crash. After being released from the hospital, ISP Special Agents arrested Perez Marin.

On May 19, 2026, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the above-mentioned charges. Perez Marin remains in custody at the Cook County Jail pending his first court appearance.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
