ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS CHICAGO HEIGHTS MAN FOR RECKLESS HOMICIDE ​ ​ ​

CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 20-year-old Demitreaun Ross of Chicago Heights, IL for two counts of Reckless Homicide (Class 2 Felony), ​ two counts of Failure to Report a Crash Resulting in Death (Class 1 Felony), and one count of Criminal Trespass to a Motor Vehicle (Class A Misdemeanor) related to a stolen vehicle crash on Interstate 57.

On January 29, 2025, ISP Troopers received a report of a two-vehicle crash involving a stolen vehicle that occurred on I-57 northbound near 167th Street. ​ Three passengers in the vehicle were ejected during the crash, one who died.

ISP Special Agents conducted a thorough investigation and identified the driver of the vehicle as Ross. ​ On January 23, 2026, Special Agents located Ross and took him into custody without incident.

ISP Special Agents presented their case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the above-mentioned charges were filed. Ross was held pending his first court hearing. There is no further information available at this time.
