ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARRESTS BELLEVILE MAN FOR ATTEMPTED FIRST DEGREE MURDER AFTER METRO EAST SHOOTING

APRIL 24, 2026

WASHINGTON PARK – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6 Major Crimes Unit Special Agents arrested 40-year-old Charles E. Little Jr. of Belleville, IL for Attempted First Degree Murder (Class X Felony), Aggravated Battery (Class X Felony), and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Repeat Felony Offender (Class X Felony).

On April 20, 2026, the Washington Park Police Department requested ISP’s assistance with a shooting investigation which occurred in the area of 47th Street and Caseyville Avenue. Officers responded to the area for the report of a subject down and located a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

After a swift and thorough investigation, Zone 6 Major Crimes and PSEG Special Agents identified Little as the suspect and took him into custody. On April 24, 2026, the case was presented to St. Clair County State’s Attorney James Gomric, and the above-mentioned charges were filed against Little. Little is being held at the St. Clair County Jail pending his first court appearance. There is no further information available at this time.
