April 9, 2025
CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 3 and Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 officers arrested 26-year-old Tamia D. Rios of University Park, IL, for one count of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Involving Death (Class 2 Felony) and two counts of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Causing Great Bodily Harm (Class 4 Felony).
On April 6, 2025, ISP officers investigated a three-vehicle fatal traffic crash on Interstate 94 southbound at 87th Street in Chicago, IL. A truck tractor semi-trailer was slowing due to a stalled vehicle in the roadway. Rios, the driver of a bronze 2021 Buick, struck the semi and the stalled vehicle. The passenger of the Buick, 23-year-old Carlos Rios of Ithaca, NY, was later pronounced deceased at a local hospital. Rios, her two other passengers, and the driver of the stalled vehicle were transported to area hospitals with injuries.
On April 7, 2025, ISP agents presented their case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the above-mentioned charges were filed against Rios. Rios was arrested and held pending her first court appearance. There is no further information.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
