CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 arrested 24-year-old Angel Reyes from Lyons, IL for one count of First-Degree Murder (Class M Felony) related to an expressway shooting on Interstate 55 in 2024.
On March 3, 2024, at approximately 10:16 p.m., ISP officers responded to a crashed vehicle with a gunshot victim on Interstate 55 northbound at Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. The victim, 41-year-old Damian Dunning of Chicago, IL was transported to an area hospital and pronounced deceased. Dunning was previously identified as a United States Federal Post Office employee. After an exhaustive investigation, agents identified Reyes as a suspect.
On February 7, 2025, ISP agents attempted to stop a vehicle in which Reyes was a passenger, but the vehicle fled. Agents pursued the vehicle, and once stopped, Reyes fled on foot and was taken into custody a short time later. An AK 47 rifle was located in the vehicle. Reyes was charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon with no FOID (Class 4 Felony) and Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor).
On April 17, 2025, after agents gathered additional information, an arrest warrant was obtained, and the FBI Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force took Reyes into custody.
"After an extensive investigation by ISP special agents, a murder suspect has been taken into custody to face justice," said ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly. "The FBI played an important role here, which underscores the importance of our strong relationship with them.”
Reyes is being held pending his first court appearance. There is no further information.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
