ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARREST GARY INDIANA MAN FOR FIRST DEGREE MURDER IN EXPRESSWAY SHOOTING

CHICAGO

Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 arrested 37-year-old Herman Yancey from Gary, IN for First Degree Murder stemming from a 2024 expressway shooting investigation.

On June 7, 2024, at approximately 9:50 p.m., ISP officers responded to an expressway shooting on Interstate 94 northbound at 37th Street. ​ The victim, 36-year-old Tywuan Donald, had been struck by gunfire and was pronounced deceased on scene. ​ After a thorough investigation, ISP agents identified Yancey as a suspect.

On May 9, 2025, ISP officers arrested Yancey and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of First-Degree Murder (Class M Felony). ​

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
