ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARREST DRIVER IN FATAL WRONG-WAY CRASH ON EISENHOWER EXPRESSWAY

HILLSIDE – Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 3 and Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 officers arrested 42-year-old Saul A. Alba of Carpentersville, IL, for Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol Involving Death (Class 2 Felony), Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol – 3rd Offense (Class 2 Felony), Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol – Revoked Driver’s License (Class 4 Felony), and other traffic offenses.

On March 23, 2025, ISP officers investigated a four-vehicle fatal traffic crash on Interstate 290 eastbound, just east of Wolf Road in Hillside, IL. Alba, the driver of a white 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, struck three vehicles while traveling west in the eastbound lanes of I-290. ​ The driver of one of the vehicles, 61-year-old Andy Orozco of Chicago, IL, was later pronounced deceased at a local hospital. One driver was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. ​ Alba was also transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.

On March 26, 2025, Alba was transferred to the custody of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office pending his bond hearing. ​ ​ ​

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
