ILLINOIS STATE POLICE ARREST CHICAGO MAN AFTER ROAD-RAGE EXPRESSWAY SHOOTING

CHICAGO – Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 Special Agents arrested 22-year-old Daniel Zaragoza of Chicago, IL for an alleged road-rage expressway shooting on I-55.
On February 6, 2026, at approximately 8:36 a.m., ISP Troopers responded to an expressway shooting on I-55 northbound near Damen Avenue. During a road rage incident, a suspect fired a weapon at the victim’s vehicle, striking the victim. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. After a quick yet thorough investigation, ISP Special Agents identified Zaragoza as the suspect. That evening, shortly before midnight, Troopers located Zaragoza and took him into custody.
On February 8, 2026, the case was presented to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, and Zaragoza was charged with one count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (Class X Felony). He was held pending his first court appearance. There is no further information.

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
