Illinois State Police Announces Results of Crime Suppression Detail in the Troop 5 Area

PONTIAC – Illinois State Police (ISP) conducted a violent crime suppression detail in Iroquois, Kankakee and McLean counties on September 29 through October 3, 2026, focusing its efforts on Troop 5 communities. The operation utilized intelligence and technology to focus enforcement efforts on known high crime areas, violent offenders, and structured criminal groups in these communities.

There were some notable arrests during the detail:
On September 30, 2026, a Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for a violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code (IVC), during which the odor of raw cannabis was detected. During a probable cause search, a loaded illegal firearm was recovered. The Trooper also recovered two large bags containing cannabis flower and cannabis products. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and transported to the McLean County Jail.
On October 1, 2026, a Trooper observed a vehicle commit IVC violations and conducted a traffic stop, during which the odor of raw cannabis was detected. During a probable cause search, the Trooper recovered three bags containing one-pound packages of cannabis flower, various additional cannabis products, cocaine and methamphetamine. All four occupants of the vehicle were arrested and transported to the McLean County Jail.
ISP officers from the Division of Patrol Troops 4, 5, 6, and 7, Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 5, KAMEG, Task Force 6, and ISP Air Operations, assisted ISP Fatal 4, the Highway Interdiction Team (HIT) and the Statewide Anti-Violence Enforcement (SAVE) teams with this operation. ISP will continue to use all available resources, including air operations, technology, forensic services, investigators, increase patrols, interagency collaboration and information sharing to combat violent crime in Illinois.
