Illinois State Police Announces Results of Crime Suppression Detail in the Metro East Area

EAST ST. LOUIS – Illinois State Police (ISP) conducted a violent crime suppression detail in Madison and St. Clair counties on September 22-23, 2026, focusing its efforts on East St. Louis and neighboring Metro East communities. The operation utilized intelligence and technology to focus enforcement efforts on known high crime areas, violent offenders, and structured criminal groups in the communities of the Metro East.

There were some notable arrests during the detail:
On September 22, 2026, a Trooper patrolling in East St. Louis observed a vehicle commit multiple Illinois Vehicle Code (IVC) violations and conducted a traffic stop, during which open alcohol and cannabis were observed in plain view. During a probable cause search, the Trooper recovered a loaded firearm and black-market cannabis; the suspect is a convicted felon. Charges are pending.
On September 23, 2026, a Trooper patrolling Water Street near IL-3 in Cahokia Heights observed a vehicle with an IVC equipment violation and conducted a traffic stop. During a probable cause search, the Trooper recovered a loaded firearm with an aftermarket forced reset trigger (FRT). Charges are pending for Unlawful Possession of a Converted Firearm.
ISP officers from Troops 3, 8, 9, and 10, Fatal 4 South, Zone 6 Firearms Investigations Unit, Public Safety Enforcement Group (PSEG), Crime Scene Services, and ISP Air Operations, assisted ISP Southern Region Patrol and the Statewide Anti-Violence Enforcement (SAVE) South with this operation. ISP will continue to use all available resources, including air operations, technology, forensic services, investigators, increase patrols, and information sharing to combat violent crime.
