DEKALB POLICE DEPARTMENT OFFICER NON-FATAL INVOLVED SHOOTING VIDEO RELEASED

DEKLAB – In accordance with the Illinois State Police’s (ISP) commitment to integrity and public transparency, ISP is releasing video of a non-fatal officer involved shooting after consultation with and authorization from the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office.
On October 23, 2024 around 1:30 p.m., the DeKalb Police Department (DPD) asked ISP Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 West to investigate an officer involved shooting that occurred at 1890 Sycamore Road, DeKalb at approximately 12:30 that afternoon. DPD officers were responding to a call of a person being stabbed by an offender, 32-year-old Charles M. Tripicchio, who was still at that location. Upon arrival, officers immediately encountered Tripicchio waiving a knife at them. Faced with the threat, two officers fired their weapons, striking Tripicchio. Officers immediately began providing first aid to Tripicchio, who was transported to a hospital. Tripicchio has been charged with Armed Violence (Class X felony), Attempted Armed Robbery, Aggravated Battery, Criminal Damage to Property, and three counts of misdemeanor Aggravated Assault.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
