DECATUR – The Illinois State Police (ISP) is releasing video of an aggravate assault by a Decatur man involving a crossbow that resulted in a non-fatal officer involved shooting. \u200b The Decatur Police Department (DPD) requested ISP investigate the shooting.

On April 22, 2026, at approximately 9:22 a.m., DPD officers were dispatched to the 300 block of E. William Street regarding an armed subject, 54-year-old Michael Boliard of Decatur, IL. \u200b Officers followed Boliard into a building in the 400 block of E. William Street where Boliard pointed a crossbow at officers. \u200b In response, officers fired their weapons striking Boliard. \u200b Officers provided medical aid on scene until Boliard was transported to a local hospital.

On May 5, 2026, Boliard was released from the hospital and taken into custody on charges of Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer (Class 4 Felony), Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Class A Misdemeanor), Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 1 Felony), Armed Violence (Class 2 Felony), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3), and three counts of Threatening Public Officials (Class 3 Felony). \u200b Boliard remains at the Macon County Jail pending court proceedings. \u200b

In accordance with ISP’s commitment to integrity and public transparency, the video of the shooting is being made available to the public and can be found by clicking HERE. \u200b This video is being released after consultation with the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office. \u200b

After a thorough investigation of the shooting, ISP will turn the case over to the Macon County State’s Attorney’s Office for review. \u200b No additional information is available at this time. \u200b

The charges are not evidence against the defendant, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
