    "body": "<p style=\"text-align: center\">April 27, 2026</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>MAPLE PARK</strong> &ndash; The Illinois State Police (ISP) is investigating a shooting that occurred on April 27, 2026, at approximately 3:12 p.m. on I-88 westbound near Keslinger Road in DeKalb County.</p><p> Preliminary information indicates a Naperville Police officer located a vehicle near IL-59 and North Aurora Road wanted in connection with a missing person who was reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis. \u200b The driver brandished a firearm and then fled in the vehicle. \u200b Warrenville Police Department officers located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit as the driver continued to brandish a firearm. \u200b The pursuit entered I-88 westbound at which time ISP became involved. \u200b As the vehicle entered DeKalb County, spike strips were successfully deployed and the vehicle came to a stop on I-88 westbound near Keslinger Road. \u200b Both the driver and a Warrenville Police officer reportedly discharged their firearms during the incident and the driver sustained a gunshot wound. \u200b Officers administered life-saving measures on scene before the driver was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. \u200b No officers were injured.</p><p> In accordance with the Police and Community Relations Improvement Act (50 ILCS 727) and the Illinois State Police Law (20 ILCS 2605), ISP Division of Internal Investigation Special Agents are investigating ISP&rsquo;s involvement in this incident.
